Contributed to the ongoing discussion on the effective width of reinforced concrete slabs in the Verulam page of the IStructE's journal The Structural Engineer. The following figure shows contours of utilisation for a quarter quadrant model of a one-way spanning (short direction), simply supported slab with central point load as produced by EFE. The plot is for a highly orthotropic reinforcement configuration with no ductility limitations imposed.

Additional results have also been produced in a supplement to the letter to verulam showing more detailed information about the elastic and plastic solutions including results from yield line analyses.
