Limit Analysis of Steel Plates

Introduction

The Ultimate Limit State (ULS) condition of plastic limit load for steel plates is an essential consideration in the design and can be considered as a limit analysis problem. The upper bound yield line technique cannot strictly be applied to ductile metals as the yield criterion implicit to the technique is not valid for metals. The lower bound approach of EFE, however, allows the von Mises yield criterion to be used and is thus eminently suitable for this purpose.
